Going Somewhere? Why?

Several significant advancements in travel have permitted more mobility among individuals in a variety of places around the world. Traveling has enabled people to move seamlessly between countries and borders while also increasing the economic earnings of the countries in which they have traveled. People can either live, work, study, or simply roam.

Furthermore, as demonstrated by Lee’s rules on Push and Pull factors, there are both positive and negative characteristics that either entice or deter people from visiting a particular location. Push factors are those aspects of a place that are unpleasant, whereas Pull factors are those aspects that draw people to live, work, or reside inside those borders.

So what are the push and pull factors that make people travel? Let us find out! Read on!

#1 Push Factors

This might be surprising to you, but not everyone shares your enthusiasm for exploring new places. Many people have second thoughts about traveling because they doubt visiting unfamiliar places. They prefer to remain and enjoy the comfort of their room. But exactly, what factors could push people away from visiting places?

Safety

Anyone considering a trip to a new location would be wise to do some research beforehand. If people learn that an area has issues such as a high risk of disease, poor infrastructure, or the danger of crime, this should be good ground for them to avoid visiting that location in the meantime. In addition to the stress caused by cultural differences, the concern for personal safety in a foreign place is another issue that causes people to abandon their plans to travel to their intended destination.

Unusual Customs

It can take several forms, such as serving exotic food or experiencing unique customs first-hand! While things like these may appear to be a new and exciting event for someone, it may actually be a reason for one’s decision not to travel. People can consider culture shock as a mind-blowing experience that can result in anxiety and homesickness. It is somehow natural for people to do their best to avoid strange experiences again in the future.

Climate

Seasons and weather differ from one country to another. So, traveling to a humid or tropical region might be disappointing for someone who has spent their entire life in a cold climate or vice versa, as they might find it uncomfortable and perhaps get sick. People may be hesitant to continue their trip if they know that the weather there will be drastically different from what they are used to.

Language Barrier

One of the most prevalent stumbling hurdles to travel is the inability to communicate effectively in one’s destination country. When you are unable to communicate successfully in a foreign language, you may find yourself in a stressful and frustrating situation. As a result, many people are hesitant to venture outside of their comfort zones.

#2 Pull Factors

After addressing a location’s drawbacks, or what pushes people away, let us see what pulls people to travel to new places! It all depends on what a tourist might expect when they visit a particular place: Is there anything in particular they enjoy or maybe discover? Is it because of the stunning scenery or such to steal prices from shopping? People are drawn for countless reasons to the destination because of these features, and it also enhances the whole travel experience.

Unique Attractions

There are things you don’t normally see every day! It is such a heartwarming moment to realize that you’re standing somewhere that you’ve only ever seen in photographs. Just like how the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris and its stunning architecture paved its way to the list of one of the most popular tourist destinations. It is an ideal location for both sightseeing and photography. Furthermore, after a person has visited a destination, the sights and sensations they experienced on their first visit are what pull them to come back.

Shopping Spree

We can’t deny the fact that shopping is now one of the motivations for tourists to visit a place! The destination has interesting products and goods you can’t usually find in your homeland. And what’s more, is that you can own them for such a steal! During shopping, tourists can also come across some local food that they’ve never experienced eating before. Shopping culture pulls people in for being such a fun way to broaden their horizon.

Lifestyle

Lifestyle can attract travelers. Each place also varies in lifestyle. From laid-back cultures to fast-paced ones. So, whether someone is seeking career or study opportunities, the overall lifestyle of a country could entice people in. This is the chance to live the life of their dreams!

Climate

In contrast to the fact that drastic weather difference discourages tourists from visiting, it can also be a factor in what pulls them in. Consider the motivation of a traveler from a tropical region to see snow for the first time. Or, a person from a cold region who wishes to go about his or her daily life in light and summer clothing. Even once in a while, people would like to live their lives in a way they’ve never been able to before.

Takeaway

It all begins with what you’re passionate about.

Getting comfortable in your own environment can make you feel that there are no more surprises that life can offer. Travel can show you that even the most mundane of things can be a source of fascination.

There are a plethora of compelling reasons to go outside of your comfort zone. Being able to travel to different cultures and see their way of life is a very rewarding experience. Seeing landmarks, experiencing cultures, and witnessing behaviors that are taking place right in front of you is not only awe-inspiring, but it is also meaningful! It nourishes the spirit while overwhelming the intellect.

With both of these factors, push and pull, it is up to you to use this knowledge to design the safest and most enjoyable travel experience of your life
